What`s cookin?

CHEESEBURGER HEAVEN

BREAKFAST, ALL DAY?

UKRANIAN EASTER AT DAD & DI`S CASA

What`s Cookin in YOUR Casa? FOOD! Glorious food! I swear food makes me wanna sing! And damn it, sometimes I do! I am definitely a “foodie”. I love all kinds of food and I love that food is one of the things that brings people together. The kitchen is the Heart of the Home, right? I`m loving pizza, cheeseburgers and fries (this would be my last meal, if I was ever asked that question but don’t worry, I`m planning on staying out of death row)) Sorry. My sense of humor can be a bit morbid but I digress!! WHAT DO YOU LOVE? I have a “sweet tooth”, a “salty tooth” and a “sour tooth”. The only tooth I`m missing (see, there I go again) is the “bitter tooth”. I cannot eat or drink bitter things! I didn’t even start drinking coffee until I was in my 30`s and even now, if you knew how I take it, some of you might start gagging, so get a bucket! I put cinnamon and cloves in my grinds BEFORE brewing (my sis taught me the cinnamon part, I added the cloves) then… sweet cream creamer and THEN stevia (a natural sweetener). My mom thinks it`s the most disgusting concoction in the world. (But she used to eat peanut butter, cheese and mayonnaise sandwiches, SO…I`m just saying`). But see? Food is so personal!

What do you cook regularly? As a single mom, I have a few “go to`s” that on a work/school night, are fast and easy. I love my mini George Foreman grill to do chicken! It comes out so juicy!!  I love to do turkey meatballs and pasta. If I have time? (And the burning desire to make something…not as often as I’d like) I love to make a great lasagna with a homemade sauce! Garlic bread, salad. YUM. What do you indulge in making when the fancy strikes you?

DESSERT anyone? Y `all have heard the old saying “What is STRESSED spelled backward? DESSERT!” That`s soo good! I LOVE CAKE!!!!!!!!!! Lemon cake with lemon frosting! Omg! I remember my Granny used to buy those Stir n` Frost cakes and they used to have a lemon one. THAT WAS AMAZING! Do you remember those? Anyone? Am I hearing crickets now? Well, what’s your favorite dessert to make? Please share!! Dang, it! Now I`m hungry.

Believe me, I get that! Hmm… A special family secret! Just kidding! Actually, I have never made them from scratch but my Dad and cousins do. It’s ALOT of work!! There is a decent store bought variety that I really like but definitely NOT as good as homemade. Unless I take a weekend and do it myself, I have to wait until Easter each year to have homemade ones. Thanks for sharing with me, Danny.

I’m a craving type foodie, if I’m craving something I’ll make it or get it then its on to the next thing. I do this daily so my taste palette never gets old. Only down fall is when I’m not really craving anything then trying to decide what sounds good to the gut. This makes for an interesting conversation to figure out what to eat.
Food is a unique thing and its effects on both our bodies and soul. Nothing like good soul comfort foods or the comfort we feel gathered around the table with family and friends. Also the way we feel has a lot to do with the foods we eat. All in the circle of life. Continue positive thoughts pay it forward. Great article E2.

I agree! I love how food brings us together. I also agree that we can eat around our emotions and that is not always healthy! I appreciate your sharing with me. Cheers, Erika

Hi E, I’m getting hungry just reading about all that food! A quick breakfast for me would be cereal and lowfat soymilk, otherwise, I love to cook and enjoy cutting up a potato or two, add a cut up onion, garlic salt and green onions…fry it in a pan…it’s so good!! I was raised with two different cultures in my family, Dutch & Indonesian so sometimes we ate Dutch food and most of the time we ate Indonesian food. And omgosh, my mother was an Awesome cook! My dad taught her and he would cook for us too. Food was always so important in my family! My dad told me to “make sure you always have food around because then you will always be Blessed!” He was so right, sometimes Father does know Best! I loved our trips to Chinatown in Los Angeles every year. My dad would drive all his 9 children and my mom there. They put 2 tables together for our family and the table looked like a feast full of Chinese food. I love to cook and learned how to cook almost everything you can think of. Food brings people together as well as music does and they go together well. We had plenty of house parties with families coming over to eat and entertain us with their guitars. Summers were awesome growing up with a built in swimming pool in the backyard. I remember my mom always made potato salad for us. I love cooking Indonesian fried rice with rice, shrimp, chicken, eggs, green onions, onions, peas, carrots, soy sauce, etc. Pasta is one of my favorite foods because it is so simple and inexpensive. Lasagna is my favorite of all the Italian foods. Have you ever made pizza with different toppings? I love making my own dough and adding tomato sauce, cheese, pineapples, pepperoni on top. I’m not much of a cake eater but I love chocolate chip cookies. 7-11 has the best chocolate chuck cookies ever and 2 for $1. I love them!!! When I do make cake, my favorite is Million Dollar Cake…that includes white Angel food cake in a big pan, you bake that then add vanilla pudding, crushed pineapples and whipped cream to cover the top of the cake!! It is so refreshing and one of the most delicious cakes ever. Your blog page is so fun…I love stopping by to visit you here! Rock on, sista!!!
